Description of IBM9729 Amplifier Card Status Information

The IBM9729 Amplifier Card status information is displayed here.

FIELDS::
========

Amplifier Installed:
--------------------
This parameter specifies if an optical amplifier is installed in
the 9729 device. If an amplifier is installed, the value is YES, else
it is NO. If the value is NO, the all the values below are such that
they indicate a fault. It is a Read-Only field.

Parity Check:
-------------
If there is a parity error in reading the amplifier card status, the
value of this parameter is PARITY ERROR, else it is NO ERROR. It is a
Read-Only field. If the value is PARITY ERROR, contact IBM Customer
Support.

Pump 1 Status:
--------------
This parameter takes on a value of ON if the pump 1 is switched on;
else it takes a value of OFF. It is a Read-Only field.

Pump 1 Efficiency:
------------------
If the pump 1 is functioning inefficiently, the value is INEFFICIENT,
else the value is NORMAL. Low pump efficiency reduces the gain of the
amplifier. It is a Read-Only field. If the value is INEFFICIENT,
contact IBM Customer Support.

Pump 1 Voltage:
---------------
If pump 1's drive circuitry experiences an open circuit, this parameter
has a value of OVERVOLTAGE, else it takes on a value of NORMAL. It is a
Read-Only field. If the value is OVERVOLTAGE, contact IBM Customer
Support.

Pump 1 Temperature:
-------------------
If pump 1 temperature is within normal limits, this parameter has
a value of NORMAL, else it has a value of OUT OF RANGE. It is a Read-Only
field. If the value is permanently OUT OF RANGE, contact IBM Customer
Support.

Pump 2 Status:
--------------
This parameter takes on a value of ON if pump 2 is switched on;
else it takes a value of OFF. It is a Read-Only field.

Pump 2 Efficiency:
------------------
If the pump 2 is functioning inefficiently, the value is INEFFICIENT,
else the value is NORMAL. Low pump efficiency reduces the gain of the
amplifier. It is a Read-Only field. If the value is INEFFICIENT,
contact IBM Customer Support.

Pump 2 Voltage:
---------------
If pump 2's drive circuitry experiences an open circuit, this parameter
has a value of OVERVOLTAGE, else it takes on a value of NORMAL. It is a
Read-Only field. If the value is OVERVOLTAGE, contact IBM Customer
Support.

Pump 2 Temperature:
-------------------
If pump 2's temperature is within normal limits, this parameter has
a value of NORMAL, else it has a value of OUT OF RANGE. It is a Read-Only
field. If the value is permanently OUT OF RANGE, contact IBM Customer
Support.

Pump Last Command:
------------------
This parameter displays the last pump enable commands that was issued
to the Subagent managing the IBM9729 device. It has the format <Last
Pump 1 Command:Last Pump 2 Command>; where the values within < > are
one of ON or OFF. Thus 4 possibilities exist, namely, <ON:ON>, <ON:OFF>,
<OFF:ON> and <OFF:OFF>. It is a Read-Only field.

Pump Enable Command:
-------------------------
This parameter lists out the various pump enable commands that
can be issued by the user. They are one of "AMPLIFIER 1 ON, AMPLIFIER
2 ON", "AMPLIFIER 1 ON, AMPLIFIER 2 OFF", "AMPLIFIER 1 OFF, AMPLIFIER
2 ON", "AMPLIFIER 1 OFF, AMPLIFIER 2 OFF". Using these commands, the
user can enable or disable the pumps. Once the desired command
has been selected, press the "Verify" button. The SNMP set request
corresponding to this command is sent to the Subagent. The user is
notified of the status of the SNMP set request in the "Messages" text
box. This is a Read-Write field.
